HCM City swindler jailed for 14 years
HCM CITY — Nguyen Van Cong of HCM City's Tan Binh District has been sentenced to prison for 14 years for swindling 15 people of VND824 million (US$43,370) through an illegal lottery betting scheme. The HCM City People's Court on Monday handed down the sentence to Cong and gave a two-year suspended sentence to both of his colleagues, Nguyen Thanh Hoai and Nguyen Hoai Sang.
Nigerian man gets life for drug trafficking HA NOI — Nigerian Chime Chidike Ben, 34, the ringleader of a drug trafficking gang, was jailed for life by a court in Ha Noi yesterday.
Ben, together with four accomplices, were discovered by city police to have trafficked more than 1,000 grams of heroin from India to Viet Nam and then on to China.
Ben was also fined VND50 million (US$2,500).
Accomplice Luong Kim Dung from HCM City was also jailed for life.
Meanwhile, Tesita Guiyab was sentenced to 19 years, Nguyen Thi Hanh from HCM City to 20 years and Nguyen Mai Trinh to 15 years. — VNS
