Bac Kan landslides cause traffic chaos

BAC KAN — Landslides caused by seven-hour heavy rain in the northern mountainous province of Bac Kan from Wednesday to Thursday led to traffic jams on Provincial Road 257 for eight hours, said local authorities.

The 2,300 cubic metre landslides took 20 local workers more than eight hours to clear.

Damage in the two affected communes was estimated at VND3 billion ($158,000), but no casualties were reported.

Tonnes of fish die in Binh Phuoc Province

BINH PHUOC — Nearly 10 tonnes of fish have died of unknown causes over the past three days in Tan Lap Commune in the southern province of Binh Phuoc's Dong Phu District.

The deaths of catfish and tilapia amounted to hundreds of millions of dong in losses for local farmers. Local authorities are investigating the cause. — VNS
