HA NOI — The famous story The Little Match Girl by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen has been made into a 3D cartoon by Vietnamese filmmakers.

The short cartoon by True - D Animation, a newly established cartoon studio in Viet Nam, is in the final stages of production and expected to be released in time for the coming Christmas holidays.

The cartoon's trailer was posted on the internet on Wednesday and has received many comments due to its real-life graphics.

The character of the little girl, rendered lively with big, round eyes and an innocent face, goes on an adventure on a chilly Christmas night in Northern Europe in the 19th century.

A project member said the team had studied 3D film-making techniques on the internet to make the six-minute cartoon.

"During the filmmaking process, we searched for every corner of the internet to gain essential knowledge and then shared this with each other," said director Doan Trong Hai.

"What we are most delighted with is that we have been able to create very realistic characters who move in a natural way." — VNS
