HA NOI — Five dancers from Spanish arts troupe Bellet Cristina Hoyos will perform in Ha Noi and HCM City next week as part of activities to celebrate Spain's National Day in Viet Nam.

Themed Flamenco Verses, the performance will feature verses by Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca set to dance, including excerpts from the three famed ballets Trip to the South, Gypsy Ballads and Cante Jondo's Poem.

The shows will take place at 8pm next Wednesday at the Ha Noi Opera House and Friday at the HCM City Opera House. Free tickets can be obtained from the Spanish Embassy in Ha Noi at 4 Le Hong Phong Street, or the Office for Economic and Commercial Affairs at 21 Phung Khac Khoan Street, District 1 in HCM City. Flamenco is a genre of music and dance that evolved from Spain's Andalusian music in the 18th century.

UNESCO recognised Flamenco as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in November 2010.

The dance troupe is among the leading Flamenco groups in Spain, which was established in 1989 by famous ballet dancer, choreographer and actress Cristine Hoyos Panadero.

The troupe gave its premiere show at the Rex Theatre in Paris in 1988.

Panadero herself played an important role during the inauguration and closing ceremonies of the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.
