Japanese comics go mobile in Viet Nam
HA NOI — Military-run Viettel has signed a contract with NTT Solmare, the leading provider of comics in Japan, to enable its publications to go mobile.
This will enable subscribers to read comics on mobile phones. Subscribers can connect to the internet via GPRS/EDGE/3G to access http://icomic.com.vn.
Post-paid subscribers use SmartBILL
HA NOI — Post-paid customers of Smartlink and VMS Mobifone can now pay their mobile phone accounts online (SmartBILL) via the website http://mobifone.com.vn.
The SmartBILL service is used by six banks - Vietcombank, Techcombank, VIBank, GPBank, TienPhongBank and Eximbank.
Cellphone users get access to Yahoo Messenger
HA NOI — Viettel is now providing Yahoo! Messenger, a chat shop, on mobile phones in Vietnamese.
Seventeen million people in Viet Nam are said to use Yahoo! Messenger, 90 per cent of them are mobile phone subscribers and a half use Viettel mobile phones, according to Viettel's survey.
Tranceiver on oil rig starts transmissions
Ha Noi — A Base Transceiver Station (BTS) installed by Vinaphone on Multi Service Platform 1 (MSP1) started operations this month. It can handle more than 500 calls at the same time within 40km.
The station was set up on the Bach Ho oil drilling rig under instructions from the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) and VNPT. The installation is said to be not only a great advance in technology, but one that widens communications at sea, meeting the demands for oil and gas staff and fishermen. It also assists national security and helps during natural disasters.
Thai software companies seek business in VN
HCM CITY — Sixteen software companies from Thailand yesterday met executives of more than 50 Vietnamese firms in HCM City to exchange information about IT trends and solutions and seek business partners.
The Thai companies also discussed their products, including IT solutions for restaurants, department store and tourism management, emergency healthcare solutions for hospitals, and warehouse management systems. They also offer software for e-commerce solutions, website solutions, multimedia and video presentations, telecom services, and financial applications.
The event included a seminar on how advertising budgets have shifted from mass media to interactive media, and a discussion of credit-risk models and social-network marketing. The event was co-organised by the Department of Export Promotion of Thailand, Thai Software Industry Promotion Agency, and Thai Software Export Promotion Association. — VNS
