Rolls-Royce wins VN Airlines order

HCM CITY — Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has won a US$240 million share of an order from national carrier Vietnam Airlines to sell V2500 engines to power 36 Airbus A321 airplanes.

Deliveries of the aircraft, already on order, are scheduled to start in 2011. Vietnam Airlines currently has 22 IAE-powered aircrafts in service.

The V2500 is produced by the International Aero Engines consortium (IAE), of which Rolls-Royce is a senior shareholder. IAE's other partners are Pratt&Whitney, the Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and MTU Aero Engines.

The 22,000 – 33,000lb-thrust V2500 powers the Airbus A319, A320 and A321 family of aircraft, as well as the A319 Corporate Jet.

Honda starts work on housing project

VINH PHUC — Honda Viet Nam broke ground on a new housing project for its employees in the northern province of Vinh Phuc with a total investment of US$4.5 million.

Covering an area of 8.6sq.km, the project has four six-storey buildings, including sport and entertainment centres, and is expected to provide accommodation for 2,000 people.

The project is to complete in the third quarter of 2011.

HCM City to host Chinamac Fair

HCM CITY — The 8th Chinamac Fair 2010 will be held in Sai Gon Exhibition and Convention Centre from tomorrow until the end of this month.

The exhibition will have 350 stalls to display construction equipment, electricity generators, food processors, and paper and chemical industry products.

The exhibition is seen as an ideal environment for Vietnamese and Chinese enterprises to exchange experiences and promote bilateral trade.

Hoa Phat completes bond issuance

HA NOI — Hoa Phat Group Joint Stock Co has issued VND800 billion (US$42 million) worth of corporate bonds in the domestic market.

The bond was priced with a fixed coupon of 14.5 per cent for its first year and for subsequent years pays a floating interest rate of 3.5 per cent based on the annual average of four Vietnamese major national banks. ANZ Banking Group Ltd carried out the issuance in ten weeks.

The newly raised capital is designed to meet Hoa Phat Group's growing need for capital for business expansion and investment.

100 tonnes of polypropylene sold

QUANG NGAI — Dung Quat Oil Refinery's polypropylene processing plant last Friday sold the first batch of 100 tonnes of polypropylene to Petrovietnam General Services Joint Stock Corporation (Petrosetco) and Drilling Mud Joint Stock Company (DMC).

The plant, with an original investment of US$234 million, has a design capacity of 150,000 tonnes per year. PetroVietnam will take over the plant from the Huyndai Engineering, LGI, PVC and PVE consortium before August 31.

Jetstar Pacific expands its fleet

HA NOI — Jetstar Pacific Airlines will bring an additional Airbus A320 into service by the end of October, raising the total number of planes in their fleet to seven in order to meet higher demand next year.

The airline plans to expand its team to 15 planes by 2014. In the first half of this year, Jetstar Pacific Airlines carried out 9,063 flights and transported 1 million passengers on its domestic routines. Up to 90 per cent of the company's passengers benefited from cheap-flight prices.

Ha Noi welcomes 551,600 tourists

HA NOI — Ha Noi had welcomed 551,600 foreign tourists so far this year, a year-on-year increase of 12 per cent, reported the city's Culture, Sports and Tourism Department.

Germany was the leading nation in terms of holidaymakers to Ha Noi with 104,900, a quadruple year-on-year increase, followed by China with 76,600, up 32 per cent; France with 59,100, up 32 per cent; and Japan with 50,900, up 20 per cent. Other foreign tourists came from Australia, the US and the UK.

The city has also increased its tourism quality and developed tourism products, launched the "Hanoian welcome friends" and "the Green Tourism Year" promotions. It will organise the Thang Long-Ha Noi International Tourism Festival 2010 and the Ha Noi Cuisine Festival later in the year. — VNS
