IT workers catch up on developments
HCM CITY — Hundreds of information technology workers, chief information officers and IT experts already met to discuss the latest computer innovations and identify the most useful applications for their companies. Held by the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the seminar on CIOs and New Technology Challenges encourages businesses, particularly small and medium-sized companies, to use IT.
Seminar participants learned about IT's benefits and disadvantages, as well as new technologies like cloud computing, which is made available to consumers via the internet with a flexible, pay-as-you-go business model.
VinaPhone splits up accounts
HCM CITY — Leading mobile phone service provider VinaPhone announced that from July 1 each pre-paid subscriber will have five separate accounts for each major service it provides.
The main account will be used for all VinaPhone services, while one will be used for calling other networks and sending message to them, two others within the Viet Nam Post and Telecommunication network which includes VinaPhone and MobiFone mobile services, landlines and city phones.
The last account will be used mainly for the internet service. VinaPhone has 36 million subscribers with a market share of around 30 per cent.
Cloud anti-virus to improve security
HCM CITY — The Bach Khoa Internet Security centre has launched a new anti-virus using cloud computing technology.
BKAV cloud agent will interact with BKAV cloud and update on new viruses every minute. Wide coverage and cloud's huge calculation ability will increase protection for computers.
The new design also allows the software to double its virus-scanning capability compared to the old version. BKAV 2010 can detect 6.3 million viruses. The product was launched nation-wide through a network of 300 authorised agents.
Samsung offers discounts, financing
HCM CITY — European-based consumer finance company Home Credit Viet Nam and Samsung have launched a promotion for the Samsung smart phone Wave S8500, a competitor to Apple's Iphone 4.
Between June 28 and September 30, customers will get a discount of VND1.5 – 2 million (around US$100). Besides, they can buy it on hire purchase, paying in instalments of up to 12 months.
It is available in 29 shops in HCM City, Ha Noi, and Da Nang where customers can get the loan if they present their ID and family book.
Construction begins on industrial zone
LONG AN — The Amic Investment Joint Stock Co, specialising in investment and construction of industrial zone infrastructure recently started the construction of infrastructure for the Song Tan-Duc Hoa 3 Industrial Zone in Duc Long District in the southern province of Long An.
The project has total investment capital of VND685 billion (US$36.06 million) and will cover 235ha of land. — VNS
