Viet Nam-China Youth Festival opens
Nearly 1,500 prominent young Vietnamese and Chinese on Wednesday gathered in China's Guangxi Province to launch the Viet Nam – China Youth Festival Vietnamese and Chinese Youth Join Hands to Foster Friendship. The five-day event expects to attract more than 7,000 Chinese and 3,000 Vietnamese youth. They will participate in activities, including visits to relics related to Viet Nam's revolutionary history, environmental protection, and exchanges with local young people in eight Chinese cities.

Quy Nhon set to spend $3.7m on sanitation
The Binh Dinh Province People's Committee has approved Quy Nhon City's plan on environmental sanitation for the southern part of the city. Under the plan, the city will build a new drainage system, wastewater collection system and a pumping station, with a total cost of US$3.7 million.

New luxury resort to be built in Da Nang
The Sai Gon General Service Corporation (SAVICO) on Wednesday began construction on the Mecure Sontra Resort on Da Nang City's Son Tra Peninsula. The resort of 57,651sq.m will consist of a four-star hotel with 120 rooms and 22 villas with a total investment capital of US$20 million. The resort is expected to start operation in 2013.

Pharmaceutical centre opens in Bac Ninh
The Vien Dong Pharmaceutical Company has established the Pharmacy Research and Development Centre in Bac Ninh Province's Tien Son Industrial Park. The US$120 million centre focuses on developing new pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical chemistry research.

Binh Hung Hoa Cemetary set for clearance
The HCM City People's Committee has asked the Binh Tan District People's Committee to submit a project proposal to clear Binh Hung Hoa Cemetery in an aim to curb air and water pollution. The district is in charge of compensation and building temples for ashes from 70,000 graves at the cemetery. The district expects to complete the work by 2015 with a total cost of VND1.445 trillion (US$74.1 million).

Da Nang to build $6b subway system
The Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) has presented the Da Nang City People's Committee the results of JICA's research on a subway system for the city. According to the research, the system should include four lines, be a total of 90 kilometres long, and have total investment capital of more than US$6 billion. The city authority is waiting for JICA's submission of the official project soon so that it can start work in January.
