Supermarket promotes local products

Sai Gon Co.op Mart on Friday announced its biggest month-long promotion to date aimed at encouraging consumption of Vietnamese products and contributing to national economic growth. The "Proud of Vietnamese Goods" campaign will open on August 30 and run until September 26 at 46 outlets of the Sai Gon Co.op Mart chain.

Sai Gon Co.op said it would put goods worth around VND45 billion on sale for the campaign.

Around 400 enterprises with 1,500 products will join the campaign with discounts of up to 50 per cent.

Sai Gon Co.op Mart and Sai Gon Giai Phong (Liberated Sai Gon) newspaper have launched the programme "Consumption of Green products" earlier this month.

Province holds billions of tonnes of bauxite

The Ministry of Industry National Institute of Mining – Metallurgy Science and Technology on Friday announced results of a survey done by An Vien Joint Stock Company at the Thong Nhat and Tho Son mines in Bu Dang District, Binh Phuoc Province.

Bauxite reserves in the province total one billion tonnes, just less than Lam Dong and Dak Nong provinces, the ministry said.

The reserves are enough to meet the requirements to build an aluminium plant in the province in 2016, it added.

Ha Tinh farmer discovers ancient coins

Ho Bach Khoa, deputy director of the Heritage Division under Ha Tinh Province's Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, said a glazed terra-cotta pot containing 30kg of ancient metal money was found by a farmer named Nguyen Doan Tuong while he was gardening.

The pot holds many Vietnamese currencies used during different reigns of kings, including Thai Binh Nguyen Bao, Thanh Tong Nguyen Bao and Canh Hung Thong Bao, as well as Chinese currencies including Thieu Thai Thong Bao, Khai Nguyen Thong bao and Chinh Hoa Thong Bao.

All the coins are now being kept by Tuong who lives in Chien Thang Village, Vinh Loc Hamlet, Loc Ha District.
