Ton Duc Thang Prize awarded to 12 employees

The HCM City Federation of Labour and Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper (Liberated Sai Gon) on Thursday gave away the Ton Duc Thang Prize to 12 people from various companies for offering practicable business suggestions that benefited their employers, society, and the country.

Deputy chairwoman of the Viet Nam General Federation of Labour, Nguyen Thi Thu Hong, deputy secretary of the city Party Committee, Huynh Thi Nhan, were among those who took part in the awards ceremony.

City to launch Green Shopping campaign

The HCM City Department of Industry and Trade will launch a Green Shopping campaign to encourage people to use products made using environment-friendly production systems.

Products made by 28 companies who have got ‘green' certificates from the People's Committee will be introduced during the campaign that begins next month.

More than 1,000 volunteers will help residents identify green products and use them to protect the environment.

Ministry hosts conference on labour market

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs hosted a conference on Thursday on developing the labour market between 2011 and 2020.

Delegates heard that since 2001 the Government has hiked minimum wages six times – from VND210,000 a month to VND730,000, or an average increase of 20 per cent a year.

More than 50 per cent of the country's workforce is engaged in agriculture. While unemployment is decreasing in urban areas, it is rising in the countryside.
