Weigh station officials face prosecution
Police in the southern province of Dong Nai will prosecute the head officials of Dau Giay Weigh Station for allegedly violating the State's regulations on economic management.
The initial steps of the criminal proceedings will be based on information provided by Ministry of Transport's inspectors about the weigh station's bidding process, construction and purchasing equipment.
Police said a "strange gadget" that adjusted the vehicle's weight had been found at the weigh station, located in the province's Trang Bom District.
Colonel Nguyen Phi Hung, deputy director of Dong Nai Province's Police, called the case a "serious criminal" violation.
He said the weigh station was one of the two the Government approved as pilot projects.
When the Dau Giay Weigh Station opened in March last year, many problems surfaced, including bribery. Early this year, the gadget was found attached to the station.
Nguyen Tuan Dat, head of the weigh station, and two other staff members, Nguyen Xuan Chien and Duong Quoc Thai, were suspended from their positions.
Others who are involved in the case are being interviewed and expected to be prosecuted.
