Mineral extraction plan adjusted

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has issued a directive to adjust the plan for exploration and exploitation of minerals used in cement production until 2020.

After the adjustments, limestone will be exploited at 32 sites in 10 provinces – Ha Nam, Tuyen Quang, Lang Son, Hoa Binh, Lai Chau, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Quang Nam; and clay used for cement production will be taken from 28 sites in the provinces of Ha Nam, Tuyen Quang, Lang Son, Hoa Binh, Lai Chau, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Quang Tri and Quang Nam.

Central Highlands power grid upgraded

The National Power Transmission Company is investing VND387 billion (US$20.27 million) to upgrade an 85km-long power transmission line running through eight districts of Dak Lak and Dak Nong Provinces.

When completed in 2011, it will link power plants located on Serepok River to the national grid via the Daêk Nong transformer station; and help reduce power shortages in the region.

Binh Phuoc recovers 1,300ha of forest land

The People's Committee of Binh Phuoc Province has revoked nearly 1,300ha of forest land for wrongful use and failure to implement approved projects.

The land was previously leased to organisations under a project to plant rubber and other industrial trees in areas considered "low-value" forests.

Organisations covered by the decision include Vinamit Joint Stock Company, Lasta Joint Stock Co, Viet Hau Co Ltd and the Institute of Agricultural Science for Southern Viet Nam.

VN shipping lines make world top 100

AXS-Alphaliner, an information platform that calls itself a "worldwide reference in liner shipping", has ranked two Vietnamese shipping companies in the list of 100 leading container shipping lines in the world.

The Viet Nam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) and Bien Dong Shipping Company were ranked 67 and 68, respectively.

APM-Maersk topped the list with 540 container vessels totaling 2.05 million TEU.

AXS-Alphaliner says its top 100 "provides a constantly updated ranking of the 100 largest container or liner operators as well as global capacity figures taking into account the fleets of virtually all container operators worldwide."
