HCM City to build 39 million sq.m of housing
HCM City will build an additional 39 million square metres of housing in 2011-15, increasing the average floor space per person in the city to 26.9sq.m, according to the City's Department of Construction.
The new houses will also help eliminate shacks along canals where the poorest live and provide housing for people whose lands have been acquired, accommodation for 72,000 students, and 500,000sq.m of housing for workers.

Highway management corporation set up
The Ministry of Transport on Thursday announced the establishment of the Viet Nam Highway Investment and Development Corporation.
Its main activities include building and maintaining national highways and other transport infrastructure and researching to develop the highway network.
It will be a one-member limited liability company, a subsidiary of the ministry, and has a charter capital of VND1.02 trillion (US$53 million).

Journalists club for child protection launched
The Viet Nam Association for Protection of Children's Rights launched in Ha Noi on Thursday a journalists club to protect the rights of children.
Tran Thi Thanh Thanh, the association chairwoman, said the club will help promulgate, educate, and encourage the public to share experiences and initiatives in child protection. It will also identify unresolved social issues related to child protection.

National Highway 27 to get $73m upgrade
The Ministry of Transport has approved the upgrade of a section of National Highway 27 between kilometres 85 and 147 in Dam Rong and Duc Ha districts in the Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) province of Lam Dong.
The work is expected to cost around VND1.4 trillion ($73 million). National Highway 27 runs a total length of 276 km between Dak Lak and Ninh Thuan Provinces.
